University of the 3rd Age
Our repertoire varies from old English folk songs to songs from various musical shows from the 1920s to the present day, including the occasional Beatles and Abba song.
We have a vast repertoire, stretching over more than 300 years and ranging from songs we all remember from our schooldays to songs from the musicals. We know there’s a risk that many of the old songs we sing could soon be forgotten in the passage of time and we are proud to play a part in keeping them alive. We have just over forty members at the moment, with around 25 – 30 attending each session, so there are some places available for anyone who would like to join us. We would especially like to add to our small, but tuneful, “band of brothers.” Members pay 50p a week as a contribution to our conductor’s travel expenses and £1 per attendance for hall hire payable at the end of each term.
Myra writes:
“The operative words are ‘Singing for Pleasure’ since we are not a choir as such, but a group of people singing together and enjoying the experience – and with good tuition we are learning to improve.
Our conductor, endeavours to get the best out of the group so that we make our sound as good as it can be. Our dedicated pianist, Morag MacIntyre, keeps us all in tune and beat.
Altogether, this is a rewarding group. We started in the early 2000’s and are still going strong.”
