Martina’s Bio

Martina’s own journey with yoga started while studying Fine Art at University where she became intrigued by the state of mental attention she reached when highly focused on an activity such as painting or performance art. This led her to to attend a weekly Buddhist meditation group while studying and not long after she was introduced to asana (postures) when attending a retreat at Anam Cara in the Highlands of Scotland. Martina went on to train as a Yoga teacher qualifying in 2009, teaching since 2007, training in the Vini Yoga tradition with David Charlton over 3.5 years. Martina went onto train with Norman Blair’s (one of the UK’s leading Yin Yoga teachers) and completed his advanced training. During this time she covered his classes and gained professional experience. She was also working as a receptionist for 6 years at The Life Centre where she attended hundreds of classes and workshops and spent dedicated time devoted to yoga while training herself and advising clients.

She taught in London for 10 years where she continued her professional development. Important influences are her first teacher Kevin McDonnell, Angelika Grohmann and Lisa Kayley-Isley who have all have been significant mentors. Martina has trained in Yoga for depression, anxiety and trauma sensitive classes through training with Lisa and on courses at the Minded Institute.

Martina moved back to Worthing in 2016.

Martina continues to deepen her own practice through personal retreats each year and continued professional development and training.

She is an Artist and finds her yoga and artistic practice compliment and inform each other. She has experience of working with a variety of clients and has a particular interest in mental health and support, teaching all range of experience from absolute beginner to those with 30 or so years experience. She enjoys teaching private sessions as it is highly unique guided by the individual as things develop.

She loves encouraging the communal aspects of classes of coming together to connect peacefully with others. In recent years Martina’s community chair yoga classes at Heene and elsewhere, for those who would find mat work a bit more challenging are popular.

Martina loves sharing the tools of yoga to empower people to be guided from within and become more sensitive to their innate wisdom and teaches supportive classes that encourage kindness and compassion.

Since the pandemic she has become more sure of the importance of community and believes  that a weekly yoga class can enhance health on all levels and wishes to focus on the community aspect more.
